Hope for Conversion -- Saint Augustine

If we ever despair of conversion, we should think about St. Augustine. He resisted conversion for 17 years until his mother's prayers finally gave him the grace to submit his will to God's. He is well known for the quote, "Give me chastity and continents, but not yet." On this path of conversion, we need to be honest with ourselves and with God. We often don't want to be converted. We are afraid of what God will ask and of what we will have to give up. It's okay to be afraid. It's okay to make ourselves do something even if we don't want to. We need to parent ourselves so that we can build character that is needed to control ourselves and embrace the conversion we say we want.
