Goal of Conversion

The goal of conversion is eternal life with God. Jesus told us how to attain this goal. He said, "Follow me." The disciples gave up everything to follow Jesus, but sometimes they wanted to go back to what they had given up. They asked Jesus what would be their reward for following him. He told him that anyone who gave up everything to follow Jesus would have eternal life. What about those of us who have obligations and can't give up everything to follow Jesus? There is a path to heaven for secular people. It consists in doing God's will as he makes it known to us moment by moment. Everyone can surrender to God. Everyone can hold his or her possessions or position with an open hand so that they, like butterflies, can fly away if God wishes to take them. This is giving up everything to follow Jesus, because we are no longer attached to these people or possessions or positions.
