After Jesus' resurrection, he appeared to the apostles and on one occasion, told St. Peter that, when he was old, someone else lead him to where he didn't wish to go. Peter realized that this was a prediction of martyrdom. When Jesus said nothing about St. John, who was also present, I do seem to be one of Peter's best friends, Peter asked what about him? Jesus said, "What concern of that yours? You follow me." To follow Christ to surrender everything to God and to do things His way. Jesus three times asked Peter if he loved him. Each time he said that he did. Jesus was asking Peter to prove that love by following him, not by following St. John or anyone else but to follow Jesus. As we move ahead in our conversion, we realize that God calls us in a different way than He may call someone else. Our task is to follow Jesus wherever He wishes us to go.
