Doing the Good

St. Paul complained that the good he wanted to do he did not do, while the evil he was trying to avoid was what he did. This statement is indicative of someone on the path of conversion. We are not yet strong enough to do the good we want to do all the time and are still enticed by the evil that we want to avoid. We need to ask God for a firm purpose so that our lives are not divided between evil and good. Only as we keep progressing toward the good and subdue our fickle and fallen nature will we advance on the path of perfection.
